September is the beginning of the fall in Kodiak – the leaves start changing colors, daylight hours dwindle and the air is brisk. It is a spectacular time for silver salmon fishing on the Zachar River. Take the daily pilgrimage to the fishing grounds - a 5-minute boat ride and 40 minute walk – to cast your line into some of the most pristine silver filled waters on the entire island. Welcome to our backyard!
Saltwater and halibut fishing is still good throughout the month, although temperatures start to cool and windchills may require a warm hat and gloves. Daytime temperatures in September average 50 degrees, and drops to about 35 degrees in the evening. Storms sneak up on the island quickly, but tend to also pass quickly. This is a favorite time among a handful of our returning clients that love to catch silver salmons - so plan to book early.
Following is a more detailed description of what to expect during your visit. Please note that the 'typical' based on over 20 years of fishing knowledge accumulated by the Eaton's in Zachar Bay, but what is described and may be different depending upon the environmental conditions. |
