JUNE 1 - JULY 15

KING (CHINOOK) SALMON FISHING

Kodiak King
Salmon Fishing
Kodiak Island is home to two very productive King Salmon rivers - the Karluk and Ayakulik.
Fly-out to remote
river systems
Over 10,000 King Salmon return to each river system throughout the summer, and we can provide you daily access into these rivers with our Found Bush Hawk aircraft. Trips into the Karluk and Ayakulik are unguided, but our guides will prepare you at the lodge with the equipment and knowledge to be successful!

Kodiak King Salmon average around 20 pounds and can reach up to 35 pounds! Bringing in one of these large Kings requires a medium action spinning rod with 14-20 pound test line or a 9-weight fly-rod. We have designed this fishing package to include 3 fly-out trips. Here is a sample itinerary for the 5-day package:

DAY 1: Guided
Arrive Zachar Bay in the morning. After you get settled in and issued a fishing license, you will go out with your guide for Halibut fishing and salmon trolling in the bay.

DAY 2: Guided
Fly-Out to a remote lake or river system with your guide to fish for Red (Sockeye) Salmon. During this day, your guide will show you the methods of fishing for King Salmon and proper bear awareness skills.

DAY 3: Unguided
Fly-Out to fish King Salmon at the Ayakulik River where you will be landing right in the river. Your pilot will fly over the fishing spots for you to see the fishing areas, which is only a few hundred yards from where the airplane will drop you off.

DAY 4: Unguided
Fly-Out to fish King Salmon at the Karluk or Ayakulik River, depending on the best King Salmon fishing opportunities.

DAY 5: Guided
Fishing for Halibut and Salmon Trolling in the Bay

DAY 6:
Depart Zachar Bay in the morning for Kodiak
