If you want to catch a lot of fish, July is the month for you! We have spectacular saltwater fishing for halibut & salmon, the fly-out red salmon season is in full swing and the chum and pink salmon start flooding the Zachar River. It is your best chance at catching the Alaska Grand Slam (all 5 pacific salmon) during a single stay!
The red salmon is at the peak of the run at the Frazer River. Frazer is a 20-minute floatplane flight and a 30-minute (1 mile) walk to the fishing grounds. It is not uncommon to have some competition on the fishing grounds...the locals Kodiak Bears. Don't worry – the bears are skilled at catching their own salmon – and your guide will be close by to ensure your safety. Hike up the Zachar River to try your hand at spin or fly-fishing for chum salmon and pink salmon.
Daytime temperatures in July average 60 degrees, and drops to about 45 degrees in the evening. Summer is truly in full swing by this time, and the winds and rain not as severe – but plan on still packing warm and dry. June is a popular time among our clients that want to experience a variety of activities – so plan to book well in advance.
Following is a more detailed description of what to expect during your visit. Please note that the 'typical' based on over 20 years of fishing knowledge accumulated by the Eaton's in Zachar Bay, but what is described and may be different depending upon the environmental conditions. |
