August tends to be some of the BEST weather in Kodiak and it is also the start to our silver salmon fishing season. Silver salmon start entering the bays around August 1st. Trolling for these 10-20 pound silvers can be fun and exciting! After catching silvers in the ocean, you can drop the anchor and fish for halibut in the same grounds.
The Zachar River is filled with pink salmon, chum salmon and dolly varden trout. Silver salmon begin entering the river system around August 15, and fishing for silvers only improves as time passes. Fishing the Zachar River from our Lodge is a short 5-minute boat ride, and then about a forty minute walk to the fishing hole. Catch fish all day till your arms ache at this remote, secluded location, then relax back at the lodge at the days end.
Daytime temperatures in August average 60 degrees, and drops to about 40 degrees in the evening. Toward the end of the month, expect temperatures to drop, and our first frosts start to appear. August is a favorite time among our returning clients – so plan to book well in advance to secure your fishing adventure.
Following is a more detailed description of what to expect during your visit. Please note that the 'typical' based on over 20 years of fishing knowledge accumulated by the Eaton's in Zachar Bay, but what is described and may be different depending upon the environmental conditions. |
