SEPTEMBER 18 - OCTOBER 30, 2004

Here is a general schedule of your Blacktail Hunt and Fishing Adventure activities for the week (subject to change because of weather or other scheduling):

Saturday Day 1: Arrive Zachar Bay Lodge from Kodiak City around 10AM. The scenic floatplane flight is approximately 40 minutes and will give you a bird’s eye view of this rugged land. Today you will spend halibut fishing and king salmon trolling near Zachar Bay.

Sunday Day 2: Your first floatplane fly-out day will take you on a flight toa remote location on the south end of Kodiak Island for you unguided Sitka Blacktail Deer Hunt. The terrain here is low rolling hills with little underbrush. Some of Kodiak’s biggest trophy bucks are taken in this area each year! In the evening, your pilot will fly you back to the Lodge to for a wholesome home cooked dinner.

Monday Day 3: Your second floatlane fly-out can either be for another unguided deer hunt at a different location or a guided fishing adventure for Steelhead, Silver Salmon or Red Salmon. There are several excellent Steelhead systems on Kodiak – the Frazer River, Karluk River and Ayakulik River systems just to mention a few. Fishing the Frazer River, we will land in the river about 4 miles from the lake outlet, where you and your guide can spend the day fishing the river all the way to the lake.

Tuesday Day 4: Your last fly-out is again of your choosing – either hunting or fishing.

Wednesday Day 5: There are a variety of activities that can you can do on the last three days of your trip. Troll for king salmon and halibut in Zachar Bay for the day - where you have the opportunity to catch a 200 pound halibut or king salmon up to 50 pounds.

Thursday Day 6: Unguided hunting in the Zachar River valley or the mountainside for Sitka Blacktail Deer. This river valley is only a five-minute boat ride from Zachar Bay Lodge and has some fabulous deer hunting. The terrain and brush is thicker than hunting during the fly-outs, but the new challenge also creates a reward if you get a nice buck. Sitka blacktail bucks antler sizes and styles all vary throughout different locations on the island, and from our experience, a Zachar Bay buck has a more symmetrical rack than most other places.

Friday Day 7: Hike up the Zachar River for excellent silver salmon fishing or spend the day in the boat halibut fishing.

Saturday Day 8: Depart Zachar Bay in the morning for Kodiak City.
